Who Ya Gonna Call? Georgians.

Do you want to increase your chances of getting cell phone-related disease while making the senate more Obama-friendly? Keep reading!!

As I wrote about last week, Jim Martin is a Democrat running for the senate in Georgia, where he faces crabby old Republican Saxby Chambliss in a December 2nd runoff. With the Democrat in Minnesota's recount down by only 115 votes, this could be our ticket to a bullet-proof 60 seat Democratic senate.

If you don't have a few bucks to give him, or you prefer more hands-on political activism, you can also make phone calls right from the comfort of your own home! Through the Obama for America action page, you can access call lists and dial folks in Georgia to beg them to get off their asses and elect the right dude. (If you are batshit crazy, you can also drive to Georgia and volunteer. Have fun with that, yo.)

TNG is gauging interest on holding a phone banking event for Martin on December 1st - the night before the election - to remind people to vote. A phone bank is when we pick a location to meet, everyone brings their cell phones and chargers, and you get a list of Democrats in Georgia to call. It will also mean that I will be baking a lot of food for you. People in San Francisco have been working hard for Martin and we do NOT want them to show us up. If you're interested, please let us know in the comments! Otherwise I will call all by myself... with a big plate of gingerbread... sobbing softly.

Hey I just got back from Georgia campaigning this weekend with a lot of the College Democrats groups in D.C. (Georgetown, Howard, American, George Washington and Catholic). If TNG were to host a phonebanking party I'll send out an e-mail hoping to recruit people to attend. Please let me know ASAP though because it may take a few days to get in contact with people with the holidays approaching.

At this point, I'm praying for GOP wins in both GA and MN. Why? So that that Dems will have to convince a least a couple of Republicans that the things they are proposing are good ideas. It's a sanity check. It's the same reason why, a number of years ago, some acquaintances of mine who were starting a new company they could have funded themselves went onto the venture capital market. If they could sell their business plan as solid to someone else, there was a better chance that it was solid. If the Dems need to convince a couple of Republicans that they have a good idea, the chances of groupthink are reduced.
