Marriage for DC?
An overlooked article in the Examiner last week discussed the possibility of same-sex marriage in DC. It appears that several factors might make the time ripe, including the rejection of Prop. 8, the election of Obama, and the outcomes of many Congressional races throughout the country.
Personally, we should just ban all state and federal recognition of "marriage" as a religious institution and make all the straights get civil unions and leave marriage to the churches. But I do believe that official recognition of the union between two people does matter, and whatever you call it, I am in support of DC formally recognizing such unions.
Contact DC forMarriage, a project of the DC Center, to find out what you can do to help make this possibility a reality.
