Hector Aristizábal’s “Nightwind” and Theatre of the Oppressed Workshop – Jan. 12th and 13th
Colombian human rights activist and torture survivor Hector Aristizábal is currently in Washington, DC for the Witness against Torture events to close Guantanamo. Hector will perform his solo play “Nightwind” and lead a Theatre of the Oppressed workshop while he is in town. Don't miss the chance to see the play and/or to participate in the workshop. Admission for both events is free, though contributions can be made to the Huong Peace Art Mural for hosting the events.
In “Nightwind,” Aristizábal recreates the scenario in which he was tortured in his home in Colombia in 1989 for human rights advocacy as a solo performance. When Aristizábal's brother is abducted and killed by the paramilitary, his own rage and desire for violent revenge was awakened-what he calls “the terrorist within.” Inspired by his own young children, the play shows how he finds ways to re-channel this terroristic energy into constructive action.
