Hot Song Alert: The Gossip, Gogol Bordello, Okkervil River, and Smergio!

Gogol Bordello: American Wedding
This is the latest single from the 2007 album "Super Taranta!," which is probably my favorite album of last year. When I listen to these gypsy punk rockers, I want to jump as high as I can and swing my arms around and pretend I'm a helicopter. If I ever have sex to this album I'll probably go to prison for murder.

Frequent commenter "Smergio" is responsible for a few of the tunes on this week's "Hot Song Alert." Thanks, Smergio.

More videos after the jump.

The Gossip: Yr Mangled Heart (Live)
My friend Chaney introduced me to this band. The lead singer Beth Ditto dedicates this song to "the faggots, th g-a-y," which is a nice touch considering her fan base (The band was a part of the True Colors tour, which was a fundraiser for HRC). -Ben

Hot Chip - One Pure Thought
I trust everyone who got a ticket to the Hot Chip show this past Friday got down on the dancefloor. This is the animated video for their recently released single off their hot record "Made In The Dark." It's crazy to think that this is only their second single, the other one being the ridiculously catchy "Ready For The Floor." This whimsical video is really fun and looks like something out of the Pop art era.

Wiley - Wearing My Rolex
There are rumors that Grime MC Wiley refused to be in this video. Maybe because it looks like soft core furry porn. It's still way better than that video of him trying to start "The Rolex Sweep" dance craze. Besides everyone knows foxes are the new squids, which were the new owls.
-Smergio (Guest Submission)

TNG Ben: Smergio, I wasn't sold on this until I saw the foxes dancing in the alley and eating fried chicken out of a trash can.

Okkervil River: Our Life is Not a Movie, Or Maybe
This song has been out for a short while, but it's a big hit for Okkervil River, which opened for the New Pornographers at 930 Club the last two days. They did a great job as an opening act.

Robyn - Konichiwa Bitches
This isn't her latest music video, but I'll guess that most of you haven't heard it anyway, seeing that her album won't be released in the states until April 29th. You probably remember Robyn from her 90's hits "Show Me Love" and "Do You Know What It Takes." She is back and has been blowing up all over Europe, and one reason is her versatility. She has indie cred from collaborating with The Knife on her latest single "Who's That Girl," and recently performed an AMAZING acoustic live version of Lykke Li's "I'm Good I'm Gone" alongside fellow swedes Shout Out Louds and The Concretes. She also has hip-hop cred from singing with Snoop Dogg, for his "Sexual Eruption" remix. You knew she already has pop cred because of her past, but did you know she's one of the backing vocals on Britney Spears "Piece of Me?" Is there anything the Swedish people can't do?

J.R.-Not a Slave
Awww, crap. Don't you hate it when you start rockin' out to a good song, then you realize that it's christian music? God Dammit! I didn't even realize my soul was being saved until halfway through the song. This is a first for TNG, but hey, it's a good song.

ben, your description for gogol bordello's music is so on point, it's ridiculous. and lowel at the idea of the police report being like "cause of death: sex to gogol bordello"

and i dunno why, but i just can't get into the gossip. i respect beth ditto and blah blah blah, but the music has never really done it for me.

i love smergio's picks! robyn is the SHIT!! and the hot chip video is awesome --like pretty much everything else they've released. i wasn't familiar with the wiley track, but the video is crazy and awesome. i love when they're going back and forth on the walls in the alley and gyrating. those foxes can move.

and yeah, i couldn't believe the j.r. track was christian at first either... but, after a while, it became so glaringly obvious in its derivative gnarls barkley-lite kinda way. still a good track, though.
