Kickin' Ass With the GMCW
Recently one of our readers asked us to give a shout out to the Gay Men's Chorus of Washington (GMCW). He told TNG that "we are performing a pretty kick-ass program of American classical and folk masterpieces for two nights next weekend (FRI & SAT/22/23)" and that he would like us to mention their event on this site.
While this isn't the kind of event that TNG usually promotes and we have a hard time picturing Aaron Copland kicking ass, the GMCW is a well-respected and musically
talented group of guys who work their asses off to put on a good show, so check out more information after the jump if you are interested. You can buy tickets on their website.

AMERICAN MASTERPIECES
A Celebration of American Composers
GMCW and Rock Creek Singers
Friday, February 22, 2008 at 8 pm
Saturday, February 23, 2008 at 8 pm
Church of the Epiphany
1317 G Street NW, Washington, DC
GMCW’s celebration of American music turns decidedly classical with American Masterpieces. The Chorus and Rock Creek Singers, GMCW’s select, spirited, classical ensemble, explore the great wealth of choral music by American composers such as Randall Thompson, Aaron Copland and Steven Paulus, among others. The feature selection of the concert is Leonard Bernstein’s inspiring and uplifting Chichester Psalms.
In 1965, Mr. Bernstein was commissioned by The Southern Cathedral Festival to compose a piece for the cathedral choirs of Chichester, Winchester and Salisbury, England. The result was the Chichester Psalms, a profound statement of the composer’s Jewish faith. Exciting, dynamic and lyrical, the work received its world premiere in New York on July 15, 1965, with Mr. Bernstein conducting the New York Philharmonic. GMCW will perform the composer’s own reduced male choir version, accompanied by organ, harp and percussion.
