New Radiohead Album: $0.00

The new Radiohead album In Rainbows is currently available for free download from their website. They allow you to pay what you want for their music, so I typed in a total of 0.00 (in pounds sterling) and then downloaded away. I'll let you know what I think. For more information, check out these sites.

Radiohead? more like "robin hood head."

I'll be here all week, folks.

i paid just over 7 pounds. i thought it was only fair that they get the same $9.99 that they would get if i bought it on itunes. then i read that most artists who release a record the "normal" way only get about $1.00 per sale. radiohead is presumably getting most of what they take in from these downloads. so if you assume that most of the 1.2 million people who downloaded the record paid somewhere between nothing and $9.99, radiohead made out like bandits.

Let me know what you think! I don't have it yet since I am without a laptop for the time being, but really want to listen to it.

So Michael, if you love it, are you going to go back and give them any money for it?

Parker, you're right. Self-releasing an album now is an old trick now, but this "pay what you will" routine is brand new. And lemme tell you...some record company execs are shakin' in their boots.

I think it's fascinating. Let's say you're a huge Radiohead fan. You are forced to put a price on their music. What's it worth to you?

Makes me think of all kinds of things. How much would I pay my favorite bands, singers, songwriters, composers for their work? How much do I owe Beethoven?

I'll listen to it a few times. If it ends up on heavy rotation then I'll definitely go back and pay for it. After the first few listens, though, I doubt that will happen.
