Gender Identity Protections in Maryland
TNG Reader Alex submitted this post.
If you've been reading lately, you are aware of the battle in Gainesville, where conservatives are trying to remove gender identity from the city's legal protections.
However, the fight to extend legal protections to gender identity is happening closer to home as well. In Maryland, there are bills in both the state senate and the house of representatives to this effect. You can learn more about the bills and the representatives co-sponsoring them at Equality Maryland.
If you are a Maryland resident, please contact your elected representatives and ask them to support these bills (or, if they already do, to thank them!). If you don't already know, you can look them up here. Remember that while these protections are obviously very important for trans folk, they are also important for anyone who is visibly queer.
You can also contact your representatives directly online (with a handy form letter, even!) here.
