Your Date With Equality (Campus Style!)

I'm sorry I didn't think of this sooner, but I would love to grant your audience an opportunity to be aware of the special post-Prop 8 organizing that has been going on in our own backyard. For the first time in years, queer student orgs from most major college campuses in the area (Gallaudet, American, Georgetown, George Washington, University of Maryland, Howard & Catholic) will be meeting to coordinate the "queer agenda" moving forward in this special window of opportunity. We plan to meet this Sunday (February 8) at noon at the D.C. Center.

Equality Campus Style’s unifying principle is the belief that we can achieve political, social and legal equality efficiently by unifying our numerous youth movements for queer rights.

The terms “organized” and “college student” often do not share the same sentence. Equality Campus Style exists to empower students in the District of Columbia to discover their inner organizer for lesbian, gay, bisexual & transgender equality. We promote leadership and leadership development because every academic year is a golden opportunity to bring young leadership together, from all different backgrounds, to work for a common cause.

Equality Campus Style seeks to establish and maintain a network of contacts of university equality activists in the D.C. community. As one of the largest university metropolitan areas in the nation, combined with advanced queer organizations on many of our major campuses, D.C. is home to thousands of queer and allied students ready to create change. Our unifying principle, spanning across all of our members, is the belief that we can achieve political, social and legal equality efficiently by unifying our numerous youth movements for queer rights. Equality, Campus style is the bridge linking the various D.C. university queer movements, empowering our next generation’s leaders. We invite you to our next meeting, Sunday, February 8 at noon where we intend on seizing this window of opportunity by engaging our peers like never before to fight for equality.

All of these ideas, as well-intentioned as they are, can never replace the one thing we need most, you. If you are receiving this letter it is because we believe that you can contribute a significant amount to unifying D.C.’s various student movements.
