Weekend Events: The Post-Election Edition

The election is (sort of) over. Whether you're still riding an Obama high or depressed about Prop 8 or neither, at least it's nearly the weekend. Here's what's going on ...
Tonight:
- Craig Gidney at the Writer's Center: Support TNG's own Craig Gidney as he reads from his first book Sea, Swallow Me during an open mic might at the Writer's Center. Read more about Craig and this event on TNG and Facebook. Details: Writer's Center, 4508 Walsh St., Bethesda, 8 p.m., free, all ages.
- Jay Dreams and God-dess and She at the Creative Alliance: If you're in the mood to venture to Baltimore, check out this advance screening of Jay Dreams. According to the short film's website, it features "12 extremely unique, dom-fem performers of color from the Baltimore/DC area." God-dess and She will be headlining a cabaret performance after the screening. I personally find the group to be kind of lame, but hey, they were on the L Word. Details: Creative Alliance, 3134 Eastern Ave., Baltimore, screenings at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., $20, all ages.
- Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls Book Tour at the Warehouse: The brains behind the Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls have released a book that teaches young girls how to form a band, practice self defense, and more, and they're going on tour. With the help of Girls Rock! DC, the tour comes to the Warehouse this weekend. Expect readings by contributors sts and Nicole J. Georges, and performances by Katy Davidson and DC's Noon: 30. Details: The Warehouse, 1017-21 7th St. NW, 8 p.m., $3-$5 (but no one will be turned away if they can't pay), all ages.
- Green Festival at the Convention Center: I was forced to go to this in 2005 to fulfill a class requirement, and I ended up having a blast. It's worth checking out if only to stock up on free goodies. Find out more about the festival on TNG and at the event's website. Details: Convention Center, 801 Mount Vernon Pl. NW, 11 a.m.-6p.m. (10 a.m.-7 p.m. on Saturday), $10-$15 (check out the website for more information), all ages.
