Weekend Events: Reel Affirmations, Politics, and More

It's Friday, I'm pleased with the picture I selected to run with this preview, and it feels like fall today, so I'm in a surprisingly pleasant mood. Although it's a good weekend to head out of the city and pick apples or hit up a pumpkin patch, make sure you save time to check out some TNG-approved events. The big thing this weekend (and next week) is the Reel Affirmations LGBT film festival. We can't list every movie here, but visit the RA website for schedule and ticket information. Read on for the rest of TNG's picks.

Tonight:

  • Homo Hotel Happy Hour at the Madison Hotel: The 4HClub will be celebrating its one-year anniversary tonight with extended hours and the song selections of Mixtape DJs Matt Bailer and Shea Van Horn. Read more about Homo Hotel Happy Hour on TNG and Facebook. Details: Madison Hotel, 1177 15th St. NW, 6-10 p.m., free, 21+.
  • Civilians for Obama at Civilian Art Projects: I like Barack Obama a lot. If you do too (and you're not completely broke), head to this event tonight. Listen to good music while checking out the Obama-inspired work of more than 40 artists. Read more on TNG. Details: Civilian Art Projects, 406 7th St., 9 p.m.-12 a.m., $25 (for Obama support and drinks), 21+.
Saturday:
  • Mixtape at Dahlak: I think I ended up at Mixtape for a bit last month on my birthday. It was crowded (in a good way) and everyone was dancing. Check it out and read more about Mitxtape on TNG. Dahlak, 1771 U St. NW, 10 p.m., free, 21+.
Sunday:
  • Lykke Li at the Black Cat: According to Zack, "It's Lykke Li week at The New Gay!" End your weekend with a trip to the Black Cat to see what all the fuss is about. Details: Black Cat, 1811 14th St. NW, $15, 8 p.m., all ages.
That's it. You know the drill -- let us know what we missed in the comments. Have a good weekend.
