Weekend Events: Columbus Day
Unlike Zack, I decided to miss some great concerts and travel home to New York for Yom Kippur. Actually, my mom lured me home with the promise of new clothing. The point is, I'm out of town this weekend. I just realized Monday is Columbus Day, so some of you may have three-day weekends. The next few days in the District are supposed to be gorgeous, so take advantage of your time off by doing queer things and exploring the city. Read on for the events I'm missing out on.
Tonight:
- Vijai Nathan at 1200 U St. NW: As part of SpeakeasyDC, Vijai -- be sure to visit her personal website -- is performing her second solo stand-up comedy show, McGoddess: Big Macs, Karma & the American Dream. SpeakeasyDC is DC's premier storytelling organization. Check out the group's website for more information about upcoming events and classes. Details: 1200 U St. NW, 7:30 p.m., $15, all ages.
- TNG Day at the Beach at P Street Beach: Are you interested in meeting "new gays" without wearing your beer goggles? Head to P Street Beach on Saturday for a low-key afternoon in the park. Read more about the meet-up here. Keep in mind that this event is for bisexuals, lesbians, gay men, queer people, straight people, and anyone who doesn't fall into those labels. Details: P Street Beach, intersection of P and 23rd streets NW, 2-5 p.m., free, all ages.
- Taint at DC9: You know the drill -- queer indie/electro dance party. It's a holiday weekend, so expect crowds. Details: DC9, 1940 9th St. NW, 9 p.m., $5, 21+.
- If you have the day off, sleep in and go shopping. Does anyone know of any good Columbus Day sales?
- If you're like me and have to work, have fun.
