Ask A Straight Guy: Walter Meego's Colin Yarck
Wanna throw up? Right now? Check out this website. It's the homepage for Chicago duo Walter Meego, but it looks like it's been designed by the professional alliance of motion sickness researchers. Poor design aside, this band is worth checking out. You might recognize their best song from its inclusion in Ugly Betty, but there's much more to love. They'll be playing alongside The Morning Benders as openers for past "Ask a Straight Guy" featurees Ra Ra Riot.
WM's synth player Colin Yarck (right) was nice enough to answer some of our questions about straight people. Full interview and video sampler beneath the fold.
The New Gay: When did you first realize you were straight?
Colin Yarck: When I tried to stand up closer to the television during Zest commercials to see if I could get a peek at the model's boobs in the shower.
TNG: What is your least favorite stereotype about straight people?
CY: People? Or men? That we will have sex with anything that walks. Wait, I guess that's true.
TNG: What obligations, if any, do you feel that you have to the gay community?
CY: To support them if they ever ask for support.
TNG: What are the biggest challenges faced by a straight guy in today's culture?
CY: Finding jeans that fit well.
TNG: If you had to "go gay" for one member of the same sex, who would it be?
CY: "Go gay?" Is that like a commonplace phrase? I'd "go" Marlon Brando in "On the Waterfront" I suppose but I don't put out on the first date.
TNG: Given the seemingly endless number of "indie" bands in existence
today, how do you think you set yourself apart from the crowd?
CY: Good songs and exaggerated Chicago accents.
TNG: Finally, why should Washington, DC come out and see you play tonight?
CY: Cuz we're gonna sonically put it everywhere. Word.
"Forever"
"Wanna Be A Star"
"Girls"
