Monday Open Thread
Yep, it's still Monday. Zack's upper got me through a good half-hour or so of this the most dreaded day of the week. In lieu of other morning posts here on TNG, we're going to open it up to you. We used to feature Chatty Cathy on Mondays, but she's been out of town for a while. While we wait for her return, let's have a virtual Coffee Klatch this morning.
What did you do this weekend? 20s group or dance with WOMEN on Friday night? Check out Mass Appeal, Taint or We Are Scientists on Saturday? Something else?
And does anyone know why it was so hard to get out of bed this morning?

We Are Scientists was fun. The singer is really cute, but he has awful asymetrical hair. It's like there's a big kudzu vine coming off the left side of his head. So he looks great in profile, but then he'd turn around and that vine would swing over and almost the drummer in the face. I was so preoccupied with it that it was hard to enjoy other aspects of the show.
And I thought taint was a bit quiet too, which was unfortunate because they started to play really good music...at 2 a.m. Still, it was something.
Oh, to clarify- the first Taint DJ was really good. Then, as usual, the second one was less good. So no love lost for DJ Cubby B.
I saw Wall-E with my 4 y/o nephew and my boyfriend this weekend. The movie was visually stunning and otherwise really amazing. A definite big-screen view. The other highlight of the time with the nephew was when he referred to my boyfriend as "uncle."
Taint was fun, though more lesbians need to start coming!
I also went to see "Brideshead Revisited," which I thought was a great adaptation, even though I haven't seen the apparently brilliant BBC version.
So sort of tame, but a nice D.C. weekend before I head out of town for a week and a half!
i got my taint virginity popped and had a blast. Got drunk drunk drunk and danced like nobody was looking.
Went tax-free shopping at Potomac Mills and hit a jackpot at Ralph Lauren (because I am preppy like that.)
An old friend was in town for a wedding this weekend and he crashed at my place last night and I drove him to BWI this morning before work.
And yes, I do know why it was so hard to get out of bed this morning
Wall-E was spectacular...I saw it the night it opened and loved every second.
Had a great time at the Spirit Tour on Saturday at Merriweather Post Pavillion. Estelle, The Roots, Chuck Brown and Jill Scott. It was freaking awesome!!! We were there from 3 to midnight, so I was too tired for Taint that night.
Re Taint: I concur, zack. The second DJ was an unmitigated failure avec the spoken word spaz who cleared the upstairs out. Im all for avant-garde, but that was just plain blumpkin! One of the last tracks in the first or third (after so many shots, its unclear) set was about commodities in the art world. I felt like I could almost identify the artist, but if anyone has the 411-it would be greatly appreciated. Loved karl's dress, btw.
i was sad to miss taint this weekend. i ended up catching the nat's game. i love that new stadium, and the nat's won to boot.
i did catch jerry springer the opera, which is running at studio theater through august 17. i couldn't recommend that show any more. warning: it's not for the easily offended.
i went to see they live at the AFI theater in silver spring. my first time seeing anything there and it was awesome (obviously, they live was awesome, but the theater was great too).
Thirds on wall-e. i also saw the midnight show the thursday it came out (cuz i'm a nerd like that) and i loved it.
Adam: AFI Rules. I saw The Big Lebowski there a few months ago and was mad that I couldn't get a Caucasian.
I hadn't heard of Jerry Springer The Musical but it looks awesome. I may have just made plans for myself for later in the week...
It's DJ Cubby D.
My bad, sorry.
you know i love me some cubby d and i think when kristina comes to taint she does a great job of expanding the relatively sexist (not to mention, limited) indie-rock cannon by pushing new music and music from artists who don't get press from the nyc head nod editorial set. it would be interesting to have her replay her set from saturday in six months and see how you guys feel about it.
n00B- you may have heard kristina play "art rules" by chicks on speed.
did anybody else talk to the group of lesbians playing three-step spin the bottle by the dj booth? they had an interesting set of rules that kept the game from descending immediately into debauchery. perhaps worthy of TNG content post...
i tried to walk through the girls to talk to my roommate and his boy du jour on the other side of them and they werent happy about it...haha.
ooops-if she was second then i boo-booed. It was the DJ after her set. I already disclaimed my chronology for the night! Thanks for the name of the trak.
