Weekend Events: More Embarrassment, More Riches

It seems like maybe once per month, the stars align and we end up with a whole host of alternative queer events all going on at the same time. This last happened the weekend of June 6, when there was WAY too much going on. Also notable was on February 29, when both newly out lesbian singer Sia and JD from Le Tigre were performing in DC on the same night.

It's that time again, there are a whole host of events happening this weekend. Of course, we want everyone to make an appearance at Homo/Sonic on Friday night, but there are lots of other things going on as well. Check out the list below the fold.

Friday:

  • Homo/Sonic: Indie Queer Dance Party presented by TNG. Have fun at the Mousetrap Pride Edition? (Check out the playlist.) You're gonna have fun with us! TNG contributors Michael, Stephanie and Zack will be DJing, featuring dancable britpop, indierock and cutting edge queer artists, and taking your requests. Black Cat Backstage, 1811 14th St NW, 9:30 PM - 2:30 AM, $5, 18+
  • Guerilla Queer Bar: The monthly take-over of a straight venue hits Bar Louie on 7th Street. From their email: "Whether you're celebrating an anniversary, meeting up with friends later to dance the night away, or have plans to catch a late show of Mamma Mia on its opening night, Guerilla Queer Bar at Bar Louie will be a great place to get your evening started." Bar Louie, 701 Seventh Street, NW, 9PM, $0, 21+
  • No Scrubs: Bliss DJ Will Eastman brings you his monthly 90s Dance Party: "This is your chance to exercise your guilty, or guilt-free, pleasure groove to TLC, Bell Biv Devoe, Nirvana, Happy Mondays, Boyz II Men, C&C Music Factory, EMF, Marky Mark, Suede, House of Pain, Arrested Development, Coolio, Oasis, Spice Girls, Alanis Morissette, Stereo MC's, The Breeders, 2 Unlimited, Kid 'N Play, Color Me Badd, KLF, Crystal Waters, The La's, Wreckx-N-Effect and everyone 90's!" Black Cat Mainstage, 1811 14th St NW, 9:30 PM - 2:00 AM, $10, 18+
Saturday:
  • Really, Really Free Market: Hosted as part of the QT ATAC's Queer and Trans July project, the RRFM is a monthly get-together where folks practice some basic alternative economics by sharing, giving away whatever they don't need, and taking what they do! It's a great place to score some new clothes, or just hang out in the shade. Let's make this month's RRFM really, really gay. 2 PM, Dupont Circle.
  • Queer Film Fest: Also part of QT ATAC's July, watch But I'm a Cheerleader, Born in Flames and Wild Zero in an inclusive environment. Newton House, 1253 Newton St. NE, 7:00 PM.
Sunday:
  • Hiking with QT ACAT: City life got you down? Get out in the woods and go hike and swim with a bunch of queer/trans folks. RSVP so we know we have enough car spaces to get out of the city. Bring water, snacks, and a few dollars for gas if you can. 9 AM, Tenleytown Metro.
  • Queer Acoustic Show! w/ Bannanz, Emily Bate, Dave End & Jake with the Bear (Another QT ATAC event): Clapping, stomping, guitars, bass, singing, and goodness like you can’t believe. For specific artist descriptions, visit our websites. A benefit for the New Jersey 4. Fireswamp: The Musical, 2919 10th St NE, 7 PM.

There you have it. A weekend packed with alternative queer or queer-friendly events. Did we miss anything? Let us know.
