Media In IRAQ

In addition to waging an illegal war based on lies, our government compounds their criminality through media thuggery, insuring that America will never sees their dead sons shredded on the streets of Baghdad. The twisted jackals of the Bush regime strive to control the flow of information and maintain an America that is disconnected and ignorant of the horrors they and their neocon cronies have engendered. In an age when hard news coverage is sacrificed in favor of trivia, journalists are replaced by talking-heads and "personalities," asking hard questions and holding government accountable are antiquated notions, and investigative reporting is replaced with whatever news organizations pull from the Associated Press (AP) wire, It's safe to say that if it were not for the BBC, public radio and broadcasting, and Reuters, those few of us who take time to be informed would know much less than what we can currently claim.

This is NSFW, and disturbing, but check out the reuters video, "Bearing Witness: Five Years of Reporting the Iraq War." It's a good reminder of the important role that true journalism plays in our daily lives, particularly considering the joke that American media has become.

Also, if you haven't seen it yet, view the Bill Moyers documentary,"Buying The War," which explains the complete failure of our national media to do its job during the run-up to war. It's a program each and every American should watch.

Instead of wasting time writing tired, easy rants about Teh Evil MSM, how about organizing against current atrocities:

Hey, Ben,

Of interest in this month's Vanity Fair is a piece by Christopher Hitchens where he undergoes water boarding to prove that, yes, it really is torture.

You should check it out.

Thanks for this post and the link.
