No Spoilers Please
The girls simply can't believe how loudly the woman at the next table is talking.
Picture this. It's noon-thirty on a Sunday. You're sitting at a wobbly table in a metal bar that has a surprisingly good brunch. The waitstaff, covered in tattoos, generally appear pretty stoned or otherwise affected to the point where good service would be considered a miracle. You are anxiously awaiting your food, which will help satisfy your hangover's need for greasy food as well as tame the hot black coffee you've been sipping since you sat down 15 minutes ago. You and your brunch partner are working on a crossword puzzle.
The next thing you know, the women at the table next to you are talking really loudly. You're not sure what they're discussing, but it sounds serious.
"... just had a lot of work done..."
You try to distract yourself. 17-Across, 6 letters: "Cartridge type." INKJET
"... cold feet ..."
You can't stop listening. 4-Down, 7 letters: "Asian peak, locally." FUJISAN?
"... trip to Mexico ..."
God damn it, you say to yourself. What the hell are they talking about?
So you listen, and you realize that one is telling the other about a movie. A movie that just came out that weekend. And its being described in great, excruciating, scene-by-scene detail.
"... so, Miranda and Charlotte decide..."
Must... stop... listening! You and your partner-in-crossword start discussing, not quietly, how rude it is to discuss a brand new movie in such detail in public. No matter what you do, you can't help but hear these details, and it has to stop.
So, what do you do?
My recommendation: Lean over to the orator and request, politely, if she could change the subject since you are planning on seeing the movie and don't want to overhear any spoilers.
We did just that. And she was quite polite about holding off on the rest of the juicy details until they left the restaurant. Phew!
But seriously, folks. Who the hell wants to hear every. single. detail. about some new movie that just came out? If the listener was interested in the movie, she'd just go out and see it herself. And if not, she surely would have no interest in hearing a blow-by-blow description of it. WTF?

i'm actually going to see satc because of a spoiler i heard. and also because i enjoy the trajectory of cynthia nixon's acting roles, from girl camp hippie to power suit mommy.
c'mon, it's a big budget film made for an american audience that can't process failure. other than the (un)likelihood of any person with interesting dialogue being able to afford the fasion flaunted in it, what kinds of surprises could you possibly expect?
if you see satc, see it at d.c.'s oldest and only nonprofit movie theater--the Avalon. and i'm stealing this from ziska, but the women’s media center has some interesting pro-satc arguments . . . “a cultural watershed moment for women’s films”
