DC9 CONCERT OF THE WEEK: Maps & Atlases

Maps and Atlases let their music blossom.

As the home of alterna-queer dance party Taint and performance night Crack, 9th St.'s DC9 has proven itself as a queer-friendly business for close to five years. Please continue to support them by checking out this concert. (Yes, this is a paid advertorial but I'm doing TNG full time now and need to pay my rent:)

As a displaced Chicagoan who secretly enjoys our current weather as much as any spring day, it makes me happy that DC9 is doing so much to make me feel at home. They frequently book Illinois, a Pennsylvanian band with a midwestern name. But tomorrow they are actually going for the real deal with Chicago boys Maps & Atlases. This is normally the point where I would tell you that they liven up already-interesting indie pop with unusual instruments and sound textures. But fuck that. They met at art school! I'm a sucker for bands with good how we met stories and the "art school buddies one (see also Talking Heads and Ponytail) tends to make me excited.

Maps & Atlases play tomorrow, March 4, at DC9. (1940 9th St., NW.) Doors at 8:30. Tickets are $10. You can buy them now.

You can also check out a Maps & Atlases mixtape below the fold.
