TNG Mixtape: Love, Sweet Love Edition

TNG Music Editor Rocky submits this post for your listening pleasure.

As we all know, I'm not a big fan of Valentine's Day. I think it's silly and a little pointless. We should all be telling each other we love each other everyday. But I suppose taking one day out of the year to celebrate love isn't so bad. As Jackie DeShannon said, it's the only thing that there's just too little of, right? Well, since I love popular song and all of you, I thought my Valentine's gift this year could be a little music. So I made two mixtapes today. The first one is for all you lovebirds out there. I've got twenty or so of my favorite love songs to make that long wait until you see your sweetie not seem quite so agonizing. The other is the mixtape for the rest of us and it's all about my favorite breakup songs. If you're planning on downing a couple bottles of wine and burning your ex-lover in effigy on the front lawn tomorrow night, congratulations! You now have your soundtrack. So sit back, gauge your mood, choose wisely and enjoy! The mixtapes and playlists await you below the fold...

ok lets get some shit straight:

"house of cards" is about an affair, not a good one either ("denial...........") so i don't know if it is areally lovey dovey song if you are in a serious relationship, i mean do you want your partner cheating on you with someone who will write a song about it?

and "say yes" is depressing, they break up. while she may "still be around the morning after" she doesn't want hime, it is a meaningless one night stand and he still has feelings, "situations get fucked up".

a good love song "digital love" - daft punk, or "maps" yeah yeah yeahs, or "transport is arranged" - pavement

Ok, Mr. Rohan:

I am totally backing Rocky's choices, especially on "House of Cards." Sure, it is focused on an affair but who said affairs never contain love and sex and wonderfulness? I'm a big fan of monogamy but love comes in all shapes and sizes, fucked up or not. This is not the "Monogamy Playlist." Plus, it's a frickin' sexy song.

Also, love is not easy. And "Say Yes" delves into that. This list would be boring if it was a whole lot of songs like "The Luckiest" (still one of my favorite love songs of all time).

Finally, "MAPS?!" SERIOUSLY? Dude, that is not a traditional love song by any standard. It's a song of desperation because the person she loves is LEAVING HER.

I don't want to sound like a troll but I honestly find few faults in this list. But that is just my $.02. Happy Valentine's Day to you, Rohan! Make your own list and celebrate your own definition of love.
