Ticket Giveaway: Lady Gaga @ 9:30
This post was written by TNG contributor Zack.
Lady Gaga is stuck to the couch, proving once again that plastic and pleather don't mix.
I must admit that I have mixed feelings about this giveaway. My primary exposure to the music of Lady Gaga occurs at my gym. Her songs are generally sandwiched between that Hilary Duff "Personal Jesus" abomination and the man next to me accidentally farting protein shakes during an over-ambitious set of squats. But I just can't resist siren-like allure of Gaga's Just Dance. No matter how much I try to block her out she worms into my consciousness and makes me want to drink red wine. Plus every gay person I know loves her. Why do you all love her so much? Is it her girl-next-door catsuit?
Regardless, we're giving away a pair of tickets to her April 22nd show at the 9:30 Club. To win, answer the question below. You must answer as both a comment and an email to Zack@Thenewgay.net to be eligible:
What are you going gaga over today? Why? Sliced bread because you're tired of making turkey sandwiches between two full loafs of marble rye? The cold weather because when your nipples stick all the way you can hang leftover candy canes on them for decoration? As usual, the most creative, funny or bizarre answer wins.
Contest closes on Friday at noon. Check out a Lady Gaga mix tape below the fold.

I like Lady Gaga because her music is clever and fun and infectious - and because she writes all of her stuff.
I already have tickets to her show, but I just wanted to say that you shouldn't try to dislike something just because other gay people like it, too.
ugh. nevermind. just listened to the mix-tape.
just awful. hackneyed pop-muzak.
@ Anonymous - I respect your right to have your own tastes in music, but I think you're being unfair. Does the fact that other gay people like her music threaten you in some way? I imagine that it does but you'd never admit it.
re: Toby
I'm sure you imagine many things. I was able to register an opinion on Lada Gaga's "music" without insulting those who feel differently or projecting motivations and malevolence onto them. Shame you can't extend the same courtesy.
Does the fact that I do not like her music threaten you in some way? Would it appease you if I loved or hated all music based on the sexual orientation of fans? Am I to repent for not being Gay Orthodox?
I cut up my Gay Card a long time ago so go sell that Watchtower someplace else.
im gaga for gagapuffs!
and the 52 bus!
(takes me three blocks from Dupont in less than ten minutes!)
haha i love that we have the intense arguing and then gagapuffs and the 52 bus. brillianttttttttt
Agreed. Thank you sertok for lightening the mood.
I'd like to see her because she is a DJ who has moved into making her own music like Colette but also mixing in fashion and commentary in her music. Having bought her album and noticed she actually overlaps simple fun with complex lyrics. Comparing love to being starstruck...cool. Plus the she is fucking amazing to do chin ups to.
Is it just me or do all the Anonymous comments always skew towards the angertwink attitude?
My f'n English paper that's due on Monday because I farted all my High School brains and can't seem to finish and get a f'n degree!!! The "10-year" plan is NOT an option.
Sertok and Copperred: DO I have to remind you both that you have to both email me and leave your answer in the comment box to be eligible?
i'm totes gaga over this yall (NSFW):

yum.
I am ga ga over the two interviews I got today! With this recession, an unemployed boy cant ask for much more...
I'm gaga for the presents my boyfriend got me for my birthday yesterday! 2 pairs of 2xist underwear, Apples to Apples, and $25 worth of crepes makes for a fun night in!
Today I am going gaga over Tom Campbell, the new director of the MET, the replacement for Philippe de Montebello. I just read an article about him and he is charming, intelligent and very cute, in that distinguished older guy sort of way, unfortunately he is also straight. His speciality is Medieval tapestries which is really sexy and just makes him more hot. I have not only a crush but have major career lust, going gaga for him and his job, and I want to be him when I grow up. Reading this article about Tom Campbell also reminded me of one of my favorite books growing up "From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler" since I always wanted to live in the MET and sleep in a sleeping bag when I was little.
Also I would LOVEEE Lady Gaga tickets and would go apes to get them (think suburban mothers on Christmas eve fighting over the last tickle Me Elmo at K mart circa 1995)
I am going to submit another thing I am going Gaga for today to show my passion for those tickets. And that is Aaron Schock, he is 27 and the youngest member of the current congress, he was just elected in nov from Illinois and even though he is a republican he is really hot, and to quote my friend, "who needs Randyblue when you have Aaron Schock"
I am gaga for LEMON LIFT TEA (produced by the Bigelow Company, Inc).
I go insane for the delicious and "refreshing flavor of lemon and spice"; this sweet ambrosia is a simple pleasure in a complicated world. I think of my piping hot mug of tea the whole way into work. I imagine the sweet aroma of citrus and happy while the ass clowns on the metro swing their briefcases into my torso and breathe on my head (I'm short). By the time I get to work, I'm in desperate need of a stiff drink, and LEMON LIFT tides me over until happy hour (another thing I'm gaga for, but I digress).
The little bag of LEMON LIFT does more than flavor hot water; it lifts my spirits.
I'm gaga over the new baby gorilllaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa at the nat'l zoo. She’s a better celebrity than Lindsay Lohan.
how can anyone see this picture and not believe in evolution?

also, do monkeys and gorillas go gaga for bananas?
And why does it always feel like bananas should have more “n’s” in it?
admit it: we're all a little embarrassed that we're gaga for gaga. we're supposed to be the hipster camp gays who come to homo/sonic to revel in css synth-pop and retro hall & oates tracks, right? if people found out that we also once in a blue moon (or more...) go to town and get down to gaga's super-pop lyrics like "cherry cherry boom boom" and "want to take a ride on your disco stick," our image would be ruined!
so what am i gaga for? a business formal day at work tomorrow. sure, it's friday and i'll have to shave and put on a tie, but no one ever suspects that the dude wearing a suit on the bus is also rocking out to gaga on his headphones. this hipster-at-heart gay would rather be known as working for the man than known for his tryst with gaga.
make no mistake: i love gaga. but for now, she and i will remain in the closet--no one needs to know besides us. but... i think winning these tickets might be the impetus for the best coming out party of my life.
I am Gaga for stereotypes. I usually don’t view myself as a raging lesbian, but then I took a look at my social calendar for the weekend:
1. Happy hour at Hooter’s tonight. I’m not going for the wings.
2. All-day carpentry project tomorrow that will most likely involve multiple shopping trips to Home Depot. For good measure, I’ll throw on some Ani DiFranco as background music.
3. Thrift store hunting for skates on Sunday for my upcoming Roller Derby tryout.
4. L Word viewing party on Sunday night. Kind of the highlight of my week.
There is a small bit of gay man hidden beneath these layers of flannel and second-date U-hauls…please help me let him out to just dance for one night!!
This was such a tough cal. Rohan, thank you for giving me enough jerk-off material to get me through till spring. Jimmy, your devotion to Aaron Shock was touching. Britt, you were a verrrrry close second, mostly because your attachment to that tea was reminding me of Laura Linney giving product placements in the Truman Show.
But the winner is lboog. Though she got in just under the wire I enjoyed this answer greatly and it tied in a theme of both Matt's "dispatches" and the staff survey, which was published after this commet. Way to be prescient!
Everyoe else, thanks for playing.
lboog taking over the district! her schedule failed to mention that after hooter's, she'll be at fab lounge tonight. wearing her signature "lady killer" t-shirt. come check her out--she's a keeper.
