DC9 CONCERT OF THE WEEK: Obi Best

This advertorial was written by TNG co-founder Zack.

Remind me never to piss off Obi Best...

As the home of alterna-queer dance party Taint and performance night Crack, 9th St.'s DC9 has proven itself as a queer-friendly business for close to five years. Please continue to support them by checking out this concert. (Yes, this is a paid advertorial but I'm doing TNG full time now and need to pay my rent:)

So many puns, so little time. I don't know enough about Star Wars so I can't play off the "Obi." Instead, I'll just have to go with the groaningly obvious: For the best concert experience of next week, be sure to check out Obi Best! [Dodges flying tomatoes.] The backup singer for The Bird and The Bee will be releasing her solo disc Capades next week and is showing up at DC9 on Monday, Feb. 23rd, to show off her performance stylings. Though she is a female singer with a pretty voice and anachronistic look, she sets herself apart from many of the others through biting lyrics and a sense of acid behind all her silk.

Normally I'd include a mixtape here, but I think the video for her single "It's Because of People Like You" does a much better job at giving you a sense of Obi. Check it out below the fold.

Obi Best plays this Monday, Feb. 23rd, at DC9. (1940 9th St., NW.) Show starts at 9. Tickets are $8. You can buy them now.
