DC9 CONCERT OF THE WEEK: Illinois

This advertorial was written by TNG founder Zack.

Illinois enjoys the view, while I enjoy the view of Illinois.

As the home of alterna-queer dance part Taint and performance night Crack, 9th St.'s DC9 has proven itself as a queer-friendly business for close to five years. Please continue to support them by checking out this concert (Yes, this is a paid advertorial but I'm doing TNG full time now and need to pay my rent:

As a native Chicagoan, I have mixed feelings about the suddenly raised profile of my native state. On one hand, we have our new Michelle and Barack Obama giving my hometown its biggest local celebrities since Leopold and Loeb. On the other hand is Rod Blagojevisch's hair. But somewhere in the middle of those two extremes is Illinois, a band that actually hails from Pennsylvania and contains the most attractive land-of-lincoln-invokers since Sufjan Stevens.

They have taken an unusual route in releasing  their sometimes catchy, sometimes mellow newest album: Instead of doing it all at once, they are putting out "The Adventures of Kid Catastrophe" in 6 serialized chapters. The release party for part 4 is happening tomorrow at DC9 and I think you might enjoy checking it out. If you don't believe me, take a look at part one of the Kid Catasrophe music video and see if you don't get won over. Also, check out the Illinois mixtape below the fold.

Illinois plays this Tuesday, Feb. 3, at DC9 (1940 9th St.) Doors at 8:30. Tix are $8.
