TNG: In Case You Missed It – 1/16/09

Welcome to the weekend! And what a weekend it is! MLK Day, Inauguration festivities, general debauched merry-making – what more could you ask for? In honor of the double holiday, TNG will be taking Monday and Tuesday off next week in order to celebrate properly. But don’t worry – the long weekend will be the perfect time to get caught up on some of the most popular posts from this past week and throw in your two cents while you’re at it.

And here, for your ease-of-viewing pleasure, is a glimpse of the week that was on TNG.

This week:

In Commentary:

• Corey got the ball rolling this week by asking “Just how gay is Dupont Circle these days?” Got an answer?

• An attempt to build a bridge between the DC LGBT world and frat boy world which didn't involve a character in a gay porn.

• TNG reader Randi brought a little fashion to the site when she described herself as a gender deviant shopper.

• We weighed the pro’s and con’s of taking a vacation instead of dealing with the Inaugu-pocalypse craziness in the District this weekend.

• TNG cartoonist Maggie premiered the fifth episode of her Left Hand Lesbians series.

• Ben asked about disrespect and how to handle a persistent man coming onto your significant other.

In Politics:

Dispatches from Left Field asked about what happens to race and prejudice in America now that Obama has been elected.

• We waded into the murky waters of race and religion in America when we asked the LGBT community to focus on the real enemy.

In Music:

• TNG staff offered a glimpse into what we’ve been jamming to this past week, and then presented it in mixtape form, in case you like jammin’ too.

• We asked a straight girl, The Rosebuds’ Kelly Crisp, and a straight guy, The Raveonettes' Sune Rose Wagner, all about life, love and music.

• Zack interviewed Gareth Campesinos of TNG favorite Los Campesinos! ahead of their show last night.

Also:

• We gave you the run down on some of the many, many queer and queer-friendly events going down this weekend. Got an event to add to the list? Leave the details in the comments!

• We asked if you'd be so kind as to take our survey.

Was your favorite post or discussion left out? Be sure to make your case below! Have a great long weekend and see you back here bright and early (no promises on the "bright") Wednesday morning!
