Weekend Events: Girls Rock, Mousetrap, and More

The weekend is just moments away--have you made your plans yet? If not, that's just fine because TNG has compiled a list of this weekend's highlights.

Tonight:

  • DJ Gavin Malette at Looking Glass Lounge: DJ Gavin will be spinning an eclectic mix of soul, funk, R&B, and jazz funk. He said he'll be paying tribute to the "proto-disco era of gay culture" with this queer-friendly night. If you haven't been to the Looking Glass yet, tonight's the night to do so--this could turn into a monthly event. Looking Glass Lounge, 3634 Georgia Ave. NW, starts at 9 p.m., free, 21+.
Saturday:
  • Girls Rock! DC Camper Showcase at the 9:30 Club: This is definitely a can't-miss event. About 50 girls have spent the week learning to play instruments and writing songs, and this show is the product of their hard work. Check out the TNG post about the event here. 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW, starts at 11 a.m., $5-$10, all ages.
  • Mousetrap at the Black Cat: Come celebrate the ninth anniversary of DC's biggest Britpop dance night. Love/like it or hate it, you have to admit that nine years is a long time. While the anniversary party might not be as gay as TNG's pride edition of Mousetrap, it will still be a queer-friendly good time. Black Cat, 1811 14th St. NW, starts at 9:30 p.m., $10, 18+.
  • This Bike is a Pipe Bomb at St. Stephen's Church: If you want to get in touch with your radical, anarchist side before Mousetrap, check out this benefit show for the Brian MacKenzie Infoshop. The shop is a radical book and record shop and a resource center. St. Stephen's Church, 1525 Newton St. NW, starts at 7 p.m., $7 ($5 with the donation of two cans of food or whole-grain cereal to We Are Family), all ages.
Sunday:
  • RA RA at Lubber Run Amphitheatre: I had never heard of RA RA or Lubber Run until I heard about this event, but it should be a good time. According to the event description, RA RA is "a program of performance and video reveling in sincere parody, mischievous tact, and subversive play: a site-specific curatorial project about the assets of a new (sub)urban politic." Lubber Run Amphitheatre, N. Columbus St. and 2nd St. N., starts at 8 p.m., free, all ages.
As always, check out the regular weekly events listed on our calendar. Have a good weekend. Let us know what we missed at events@thenewgay.net or complain in the comments.
