Saturday: Girls Rock! DC Camper Showcase

You've been to the benefit parties. You've attended the Women Rock Night concert series. You went to the Rock N' Roll Variety Show. Now it's time to see the product of all of that partying. The first annual Girls Rock! DC, a rock camp for local girls, is going on this week, ending with the GR!DC showcase at the 9:30 Club on Saturday. About 50 girls are attending the volunteer-run camp, and they're receiving instruction on electric guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, turntables, and vocals. The campers will use these new skills to form bands and write original songs to perform at this weekend's show.

If you're jealous that you can't attend this camp, at least go to the showcase to support the girls as they debut as rock stars. It's an early, early show, but even if you're hungover on Saturday morning, it will be worth the trip to see the performances.

Details: Saturday, August 16, 9:30 Club, 815 V St. NW, starts at 11 a.m., $5-$10, all ages
