I went to the DC Improv on Friday for the "Gulf Coast Comedy Show." It was my first time at the improv. I learned that the reasonable $10 cover comes with a 2 drink minimum (10 bucks per jack/coke!), that Chris Rock has a funnier younger brother named Tony, and that most comedians have hard lives.
Also, the produce at Eastern Market is delish! My window sill looks like Carmen Miranda's headpiece.
Cathy,
Yr eyes are entrancing; if you were a lady walking down 14th I'd definitely holler.

I thought this weekend was kind of slow. Not even the slurpee machine at 7/11 was working. I spent most of my time looking watching the Olympics, planning, and prowling for children's books, which, if anyone has feel free to email me at stephanie@thenewgay.net and I'll gladly take them off your hands.
I'm home sick today. Rumor has it there's a flu going around. Anyone have any reports on this? I'm pretty sure I'll be making it back to work tomorrow, but damn is it going to suck. Not because I'll still be sick, but because I'll so much to do that I'll wish I was still sick.
i'm currently reading steven pinker's latest book, "the stuff of thought: language as a window into human nature," and knowing nothing about linguistics i think it's pretty interesting.
but now i hear from some that mr. pinker is actually a hack that no linguist in his right mind should respect. does anyone know anything about him or his legitimacy? i mean, he's had a few nytimes bestsellers and such, so he can't be that bad, right?
p.s. i am a fan of the katy perr-ody squirrel video.
Zack, RE the flu: last week I was stricken with some sort of upper-respiratory nastiness. Is this the flu of which you speak (er... write)?
I spent most of my weekend unpacking from my recent move (hello, Petworth!), helping friends move ('tis the season, I suppose), and preparing for my volunteer duties at this week's GirlsRock!DC camp. I'm totally psyched for camp!
Cory, you might want to check out the blog "languagehat." You can get is via RSS feed. They argue about that kind of shit all the time. George Lakoff is also an interesting linguist along the same lines. Read his short tome "Don't think of the Elephant," which explains how the right-wing effectively used language to frame their takeover of the public mind.
Btw, did anyone see the opening ceremony of the olympics? Wow. I have lots of thoughts about that, mainly that I would not want to go to war with a country capable of that kind of precision in their choreography.
I survived what "would" have been my four year anniversary on Sunday. This was the first one as a single man, and I did pretty well. Out of town at a Conference at weekend and all this week, so that helped. Though I slept on the sand of the Jersey shore on Friday night on my way to Vermont :)
I rode my brand new bicycle around my neighborhood and made a startling discovery. Capitol Hill is actually ... a hill.
Color me surprised.
I helped my best friend move from Cap Hill to across the hall way from me (He and I live in the same building now). Then, I went to Town for the first time in ages. It was great, the music was awesome.
Well anyway, enjoy your week folks!
And I went to super-gay Ogunquit and strongly considered moving to Maine. Even though the weather this weekend was cloudy and 60 degrees.
