Make Your Own Stone Roses Album Cover!
I used to be a huge fan of The Stone Roses. Their first album totally rocked my world. I would drive up to New York City on Saturdays to track down their 12" singles so I could create my own B-sides collection. I would hang them on the walls of my bedroom and appreciate their artistic beauty, simplicity, and recurring themes. It wasn't until a year or two later that I learned the truth: their cover artwork was inspired by the artwork of Jackson Pollack. Turns out that they wanted to have actual Jackson Pollack artwork on their covers but couldn't afford the licensing fees, so they just made their own. I appreciated that story and quickly became a fan of JP's work as well. I hung posters of Pollack's work right next to my Stone Roses posters, and felt the sense of self-satisfaction that comes when a young mind starts to make sense of the vastness yet interconnectedness of our universe.
A TNG reader just alerted me to a website where you can move your mouse around a blank page and create Jackson Pollack-like artwork, right there in your web browser. Wanna change colors? Just click the mouse button. Pretty cool, I thought. But because my first association and fascination with splatter-art comes from The Stone Roses and my love of their music, artwork, 12" singles, promo t-shirts and the like, I present this site to you as the awesome Make Your Own Stone Roses Album Cover thingy!
