Hot Band Alert: The Vivian Girls
Submitted by Rohan, who holds some very strong opinions about music and wants to share them with TNG readers.NYC’s Vivian Girls have been blowing up the blogoshpere the past few months and in that short time, the band was signed to the amazing label In the Red, pressed and sold out of their debut LP (soon to be reissued on In The Red this fall) and toured with countless acts including TV on the Radio.
Their self-titled debut is my favorite record of the year thus far. In a short 22 minutes, The Vivian Girls blend classic punk, shoegaze, lo-fi, and C86. Their sound is a mix of bands like DC’s Black Tambourine and new bands like Times New Viking. Live is where the girls truly live up to their reputation. Their shows are short but are full of reverb, distortion, and pop harmonies. Plus, if you are into the female variety, they are nice to look at. If you need more proof, check this out:

I can definitely vouch for this band being good as I saw them this past January at AU with Ultra Dolphins. Unfortunately, they are playing the same night as The Ex, who are currently my favorite live band.
