This Month: Queer and Trans July

It's no secret that finding non-bar gay events in this city can be frustrating. Hell, it's half the reason this site exists. So I was excited to discover that the organization QT ATAC (Queer + Transfolk Acting Together Against Capitalism) is hosting "Queer and Trans July," a month of nightly events "celebrating our identities, our communities, and our resistance to oppression... all focused on what it means to be queer and/or trans."

The full event list can be found at the hyperlink above, though some immediate highlights include an interesting-sounding lecture called "Queerness and Madness" on the 24th and a screening of Cheryl Dunye's "The Watermelon Woman" on the 28th.

And just to open some cans of worms: "Selling Queerness," a lecture on the 8th, is subtitled "Discussion on how mainstream culture is selling queer identity, and why a critique of capitalism is important to our lives." To what extent do you believe that this is true? Also, what are everyones opinions on queer and trans being separate identities?
