The Village Voice states that, apparently, “no one is fucking anymore.” In the article “The End of Public Sex,” they investigate the changing party culture of NYC from one of rampant promiscuity and lascivious public behavior to one of “apathy and different priorities among younger gay men.”
- Taking the prize for most disturbing gay thing I’ve read all year, Slate discusses the very real possibility of “hormonal intervention,” during pregnancy, providing parents the ability to prevent their children from being born gay. The religious fuckheads, of course, approve on the grounds of curing a “medical problem.”
- Considering their history of inequality and the fact that five decades ago, interracial marriages were against the law, one might expect that black people would understand more than most the importance of freedom and equality in relation to who one can love and marry, yet the majority of African-Americans are still mixed-up on marriage.

I see your mixed-up and raise you a blowback.
The black community is by no means monolithic. I'm not black so I can't speak for blacks, but I think it's the case that there are black leaders out there who support marriage equality and lack a soapbox from which to announce it. It's probably true that more blacks are against gay marriage than are for it, but let's not forget that as a whole, Americans aren't that keen on the idea either.
Thanks for the links!
About that "Gay Genes" article -- yeah so that's great for gay men, but what about lesbians?
Also, while saying that two gay genes create gayness in men/"superstraight"ness in women based off of a mathematical analysis of a small biological sample is problematic to begin with (and raises questions of whether any even number of "gay genes" or partially gay genes or just genes related to attraction, period, could create the same effect), this explanation does kind of support a limited Kinsey scale. "Superstraight" and "gay" are both different from normal, and therefore variance in sexuality is genetic... and binary sexuality is probably a myth. Which any bi person already knows.
[That first sentence was really long, sorry about that!]
I like how the "good" in the title of genes article is later clarified to mean "super-straight". =P
Of course, if the hormonal intervention were used for anything else, the religious fuckheads would not support it because it would be "playing god."
Nice point, hans
But couldn't this backfire on them? Wouldn't you need to know the sex of the embryo before dousing it with the correctly-gendered horomones, and you don't figure that out until the second trimester.
So it's very possible that in using this, they could use the wrong hormones and make a super-gay!
Duckie:
It's possible to perform a biopsy on the embryo pretty early in the 1st trimester and use genetic tests to determine the gender. No idea how expensive/practical this would be to do on a routine basis- at least now- but these are definitely the kinds of questions we're going to have to face in the coming decades.
Even still, public opinion polls show that blacks are more likely than whites to oppose same-sex marriage. This is highly ironic for a group that one thinks would be more sympathetic to civil rights combating prejudice.
