Weekend Preview

The Memorial Day weekend is upon us. The official start of summer, Memorial Day this year will probably find fewer of us traveling to the beach, mountains or other summer vacation spots. That means that more of us will be hanging out and having fun in DC this 3-day weekend. But what to do?

Here's your TNG guide for the holiday weekend:

Thursday

  • TNG "Party Etiquette" Party. Duh. 8 PM to midnight at Solly's, 11th & U Sts. NW. No cover.
  • Islands @ Black Cat. Good band with a queer drummer. If you need a break from our party. $15
Friday
  • Liberation Dance Party @ DC9. A few different groups of homos make this a regular stop on Friday nights. Open bar from 9 to 10:30. $10
  • The Niteshift @ Rock and Roll Hotel. HIP HOP, DANCEHALL, and R&B. 10 PM - 3 AM. No cover.
  • Bike Prom 2008. @ Black Cat "Bring a date. Ride your bikes." I hope they have extra bike parking at the Black Cat tomorrow night, because parking my ride on any given night on that block of 14th street is always difficult. Proceeds to support better bicycling in the DC area. Black tie optional. $5
  • WGAY.fm Broadcast. Check out this local talk/music radio program for good tunes and fun conversation. 9 PM - 1 AM.
Saturday
  • Queer Friendly Bike Ride. Meet @ The Bike Rack, 10 AM. Yes, I'm still doing it. Check the ride's blog for information about routes and other tips.
  • Saturgays in the Park. Hang out in Malcolm X park with a bunch of other homos. It's supposed to be a beautiful day. 1 PM to 5 PM.
  • Bliss @ The Black Cat. Come dance the night away at an attitude-free dance party. $6.
  • KRS-One @ The Black Cat. "Old-school rapper at the Black Cat. How often does that happen?" $22
Sunday
  • Black Pride Festival, Francis Field. "Grassroots and vibrant."
  • Taint @ DC9 featuring I Love You Airlines, the alt-queer dance party we all know and love. $5
  • Quarry House Tavern. If a big dance party isn't your scene and you want a low key dive bar to go be queer in, check out Quarry House Tavern this Sunday for their weekly queer night. $2.25 PBRs and a huge bourbon/scotch selection can't be wrong.
Monday
  • Pretend this day just fell from the sky. Do nothing. Relax and prepare for the shortened week ahead.
