Tonight: Islands @ Black Cat
In a couple hours, I'm going to interview Aaron Harris at the Black Cat. Harris is the gay drummer for Islands, the Canadian band started by two former members of The Unicorns. I emailed the band explaining what TNG was and asking if I could talk to someone, and Harris responded quickly saying that he was queer and would love to talk to us. How cool is that? It just proves there are gay people everywhere. Look, under that rock: A gay person! Behind the fridge? A gay person!
Of course, Islands' music is good too. Rough Gem (above) is more characteristic of their first album's little-bit-of-everything pop sound, but their new disc "Arm's Way," is a little darker and features way more strings. Its the only permissible reason to miss tonight's TNG party.
Islands play tonight at the Black Cat, 1811 14th St., NW. Doors open at 8.
