March 8: Capital Queer Prom

How many gay men and women do you think had a fun time at prom? One in ten? One in twenty? For every fairy tale of some self-assured 18 year-old bringing his boyfriend to prom and wearing a matching tux and painlessly losing his virginity in a horse-drawn carriage, there's a thousand of us that took a different-gendered best friend (or sexually-frustrated significant other) and spent the whole night in a corner watching everyone else hook up.

But The 2nd Annual Capital Queer Prom, thrown by B.O.I. Productions, could be a good chance to build some actual pleasant memories of high school's most awkward night. Located at the Almas Temple on 1315 K Street, the event's $50 dollar admission includes limo and dinner discounts, free admission to the afterparty at Town and a chance to, in B.O.I.'s words, "bring hundreds of adult queer men and women together to celebrate the prom they should have had years ago." The website does not mention, however, if applying your dates corsage or boutonierre will be any easier as an adult.
