TNG Weekend Roundup

The first order of business for you all this weekend is to stay healthy. Ben and I were laid out this week by a bad bug thats been going around (though fortunately not this bug) and one of many unfortunate side-effects of said illness is that TNG hasn't been kept up quite as well as it should've been. Some of the other unfortunate side effects include a constant runny nose and night sweats so severe that my boyfriend had to change his sheets and buy a swimsuit.

That aside, though, there are a bunch of fun things happening this weekend that you shouldn't let fall under your radar:

TONIGHT, 1/25:

-Liberation Dance Party at DC9: A dance party of new music and videos that has a $6 cover and a 9 - 10:30 open bar. I know for a fact that at least a couple cute homos will be there tonight and it is probably the only place in D.C. where I've seen/heard The Killers "Read My Mind" played right after Benny Benassi's "Satisfaction."

SATURDAY, 1/26,

Bliss at The Black Cat: Another reliable indie, britpop, etc. Black Cat dance party spun by DJ Will Eastman and guest DJ Brian Billion.

Disco Diner at the Duplex Diner: DJ Kenneth DeGraff spins the disco hits of the late '70s and early '80s between 11:30 and 1:30. I know that everyone secretly owns a pair of tight plaid pants that they could wear to this.

Blowoff @ 9:30: The fifth anniversary of D.C.'s Bear (and company) dance night spun by Bob Mould. Though your ability to have fun at Blowoff may depend on your weight, hairiness and tolerance for borderline club music, this is still the most interesting gay event happening in the city this weekend.

SUNDAY, 1/27:

Super Furry Animals @ 930: The Welsh rock band makes a big return to the states to promote their new album, Hey Venus. In a rare turn of events, both their openers are pretty good. The Fiery Furnaces incoherent indie-pop and Holy Fuck's electronic dance rock actually provide a reason to show up early and get good seats for the main event. (Also, look for SFA's Cian Ciaran tomorrow in our second ever installment of "Ask A Straight Guy."

OMG you guys are sick too?!?! not that i'm apologizing but i think the mix of nyquil, dayquil, episodes of the view, and cabin fever from being bed ridden for three days directly contributed to my increased irritability of late.

"Your ability to have fun at Blowoff may depend on... your tolerance for borderline club music." Hahaha. Amen. Somebody had to say it.

Richard and I saw Fiery Furnaces last night at Ottobar in Baltimore. I'm not a big fan of their new album-the whole masturbation on a genre of 70's rock that wasn't very interesting to begin with-and they seem to have really alienated their orginal sound and tempo transitions, which was so musically interesting and challenging. They performed mostly from their new album, which is, I guess an interesting nod to that project; and all the band leaders of the 30 some odd indie bands in Baltimore were there to receive it; but it was just boring compared to truly unique musical stylings of which they're more than capable.
