Friday: Indie Night at BeBar

It appears BeBar is hosting its own new indie night, called "be:pink."

Borrowing one of Taint's ex-DJs, Cassidy, some of the Taint formula and possibly their tag line (see below the fold), be:pink attempts to establishing itself in the DC indie-queer scene. Has anyone been? TNG just might check it out this weekend.

As for the accusation of be:pink trying to steal Taint's mojo, read on and judge for yourselves:

From the BeBar website: "cutting edge electro/indie rock night in featuring mostly queer boys and girls but all are welcome. "

From the old TAINT website: "Taint is an alternative electro/indie rock dance/lounge night in the nation's capital. The crowd is mostly queer boys and girls but is welcoming of all persuasions (21+)."

(Taint recently updated their website, losing the page with the referenced text. It's still available for viewing via the Internet Archive.)

be bar has been running pink for some time. i know they initially started it on a tuesday night when they opened and cassidy and her gf, stephanie have run it from the get-go. as always, cassidy is a great dj and i really appreciate be bar trying to make a go of it by attempting different music nights(though i of course wish they'd push much further).

the more love for music that doesn't suck the better. even town seems to be suggesting at a need to be more cutting edge with their friday nights and that can only mean good things.

if more gay bars started thinking creatively about their music, i'd definitely go elsewhere more often. i say there's room for everyone in a world where music doesn't have to suck.

Notes on BeBar. Don't walk there alone. If you do, come down 9th street instead of from the west. 9th has a lot more traffic and it's generally safer.

But really, don't walk there alone.
