Tonight: Hej Hej
Ever since discovering ABBA in high school, Swedish pop music has held a special place in my heart. (Does your mother know that you're out? Why, yes she does.) And that affection has spread to music from other Scandinavian countries, including bands from Denmark and Iceland. It doesn't hurt that the Sugarcubes were always so queer friendly (I love the song Hetero Scum off of Stick Around For Joy), that Björk is a gay icon, and that Sigur Ros is well known for having a gay frontman and gay-themed music videos. Or maybe it is the Scandinavian liberal policies on gay marriage that make us like them so much.
Regardless, great music has come from and keeps coming from Scandinavia. Luckily, Hej Hej is here in DC to give us a monthly dose of new music and old favorites from Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland and Denmark. Check it out tonight at Cafe Saint-Ex. Details below the fold...Hej Hej
